Over several months an alarming eye condition developed

Over several months an alarming eye condition developed. Because of partial loss of vision and severe headaches and fatigue, I left work in order to have more time to study and pray. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 486): "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence." Over the years I'd read this passage frequently, gratefully accepting its logic. Now I was challenged to prove it.

Perusal of all that the Scriptures tell us about vision, and a deeper examination of Mrs. Eddy's writings on this subject, brought the realization that vision is truly God-given, hence free from deterioration or destruction. In Science and Health part of the spiritual definition of the Bible term "eyes" is (p. 586): "Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." I knew that as this study deepened my spiritual discernment, my vision must evidence improvement also. Gradually a constant awareness of Love's tender care and sustaining strength replaced fear, and the complete healing came. This was five years ago.

More recently, partial deafness caused me much concern. I could hear only a little of what was said. This continued for about three weeks, making office work, especially interviews, very challenging. How grateful I was for those who spoke clearly! But it was alarming not to be able to hear cars passing in the street or birds singing just outside my window.
