About five years ago I became apathetic in my study of Christian Science, attending church only periodically and studying the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly only when it was convenient. I had just been hired as a stewardess for one of the major airlines. This involved a move to another city, and I became very homesick. Finally, after an especially hard day at work, I quit my job in order to move back home.

One month later I discovered I'd made a big mistake, that being back home did not solve my problems. I wanted to return to my old position but was informed that the company would not rehire me because I had not given two weeks notice and had worked there only six weeks.

This prompted me to begin an earnest study of Christian Science. The concept of a mortal, with past mistakes that he must be punished for, was replaced by an awareness of my true nature as the image of God. This statement of Mrs. Eddy's proved helpful (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 12): "We own no past, no future, we possess only now."
