One of an occasional series of articles by young people who have in recent years become students of Christian Science.
This gentleness remains
Richard Requarth is a recreation director in Arizona. He talked with us about his introduction to Christian Science. This article is condensed from our taped conversation.
Many events leading to his acceptance of Christian Science are omitted here because of space limitations: loss of interest in church, deepening involvement in drugs, estrangement from parents, his decision to discontinue pre-med studies, and his friendship with a Christian Scientist in the dorm. This friend patiently answered Richard's questions and encouraged his investigation of Christian Science. After an especially dismal experience with drugs and a night's soul-searching, Richard decided to give Christian Science a try.
After that first week of studying some literature on Christian Science I was so uplifted, I was so inspired by what I'd read and felt so good, that I just poured out all these things I'd been learning to a friend. Then he said, "Well, sounds as if you're ready to start reading Science and Health."
