Saying no to lion thoughts
Although Megan was only three and a half years old, she had learned at home and in Christian Science Sunday School that God loves her very much and that He is always with her wherever she is, always giving her good, kind, and happy thoughts. Therefore, she knew, she could not be tricked by any thoughts telling her she was sick or miserable.
One night after Megan had gone to sleep, she woke up with a cold. Megan and her mommy decided to call a Christian Science practitioner to ask her to pray to help them see that God's child could never feel unwell. The practitioner said God made Megan perfect and He keeps her just that way. Megan felt much happier again, hearing how much God loved her, and she fell right back to sleep.
In the morning when Megan woke up, she told her mommy, "I think I might have been listening to 'lion' thoughts last night." Mommy asked her, "What do you mean, Megan, when you say 'lion' thoughts?" Megan explained how in Sunday School she had been learning from the Bible the story of Daniel in the lions' den—how God had sent an angel to shut the lions' mouths so they wouldn't hurt Daniel. See Dan. 6:1–23; Megan said, "God sent an angel to stop those lions from roaring in my ears." The "lion" thoughts had been trying to make Megan believe she wasn't feeling well, but God had shut their mouths so she could clearly know she was well and perfect right then and there.
