Healing through sticking to Truth

Christian Science healing takes place through the recognition of the presence of God and His perfect spiritual universe and man. Instead of mortal discord, which may seem to the physical senses to be present, the Christian Scientist knows that only what is good—what is Godlike—truly exists. He insists all is spiritual and harmonious. He acknowledges that all is well.

This vision of spiritual perfection is the revelation of eternal truth—the appearing in human consciousness of the actual facts of God's creation. It awakens us to realize that evil, discord, disease, and death are impostors. They are not true but actually untrue. We see that we need not fear these false images but rather should dismiss them as unlawful. They are contrary to God's universal law of love and are eliminated by our mental rejection of them—by our refusal to believe that anything is present but perfect God and His perfect spiritual universe and man.

Sometimes one clear glimpse of the truth is enough to outshine the false images of evil. Healing is then immediate. But sometimes we need to hold on to the glimpse of reality until it is a consistent vision rather than a glimpse, until it has so filled consciousness that our characters are changed. Such times of trial when dogged persistence is demanded are dramatized in the biblical account of Jacob's encounter with the angel of God at Peniel.
