Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 284), "The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man." And the Apostle Paul wrote (I Thess. 5:17), "Pray without ceasing." This consciousness of man's intimate union with God is what the Christian Scientist understands as prayer.

In my own case, I have proved many times that the more conscious one becomes of his true existence, the brighter and more harmonious becomes his life as well as his relations to the world around him and to his fellowmen. When we come to understand that man as God's idea is indissolubly one with his divine Principle, Love, this gives us wonderful inner peace and the certainty we need in order to withstand the attacks of evil or error in our daily lives.

In this connection I would like to relate with great gratitude how I was led to Christian Science about twenty years ago. Because of oppressing circumstances in my marriage, I suffered from severe depression. Suicide seemed the only answer, but this was hindered time and again by my feeling of responsibility toward my two children. By a remark of some loving people I finally found my way to God again through these words from the Bible (I Pet. 5:7): "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." This I did, in the truest sense of the word, and from that moment on things became brighter for me. I was led to Christian Science through my fervent prayer that God might show me the right way.
