"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." This promise in the Preface that opens the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, has accompanied all my days since I learned about Christian Science, almost forty years ago.
Many physical healings and many proofs of the constant help given us by our loving Father-Mother God have been the fruit of study and of my complete reliance upon the teachings of Christian Science.
I remember, in particular, one evening when I was seized with severe chest pain that momentarily paralyzed my arms. Deeply disturbed, I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner and held fast to the message of peace that we read in Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." And in Proverbs we read (3:25,26): "Be not afraid of sudden fear....For the Lord shall be thy confidence." I understood that I was not alone, but that God, the loving Father-Mother, is always with His children. I felt a great peace and was able to sleep, resting in the certainty that God was taking care of me. Upon waking the following morning, I was perfectly well.
