It was the first day of vacation from school
It was the first day of vacation from school. Our daughter had just finished the eighth grade. She and several friends were celebrating by going horseback riding at a local stable.
That afternoon our neighbors brought her back in a distressed condition. They told us that her horse got out of control and ran at full gallop back to the stables. It made a sharp turn, and our daughter fell off into the fence rails. She was knocked unconscious. The stable owner was afraid she had broken her neck. There were indications of other injuries.
When this was related to my wife and me, I was so grateful that I had no fear. I was able to comfort our daughter. She made some unkind remarks about the horse. I told her she must be sure to express nothing but love.
