"...this spiritual sureness"
Conviction and Christ-healing
Christ Jesus knew God, good, to be all-powerful and ever present. As a result, he was able to refute successfully the claims of material sense and to heal quickly, completely. Cultivating this spiritual conviction is a cherished goal of the Christian Scientist.
The Bible sets forth the following requirement to help us reach this goal: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Ex. 20:3; We can ponder this number one commandment deeply, measuring our thoughts against it often, seeing what little deities of discouragement, doubt, disease, or self we've allowed to creep into first place. This purifies our thought, enabling us to better fulfill God's demand and to enjoy the blessings that enlightened obedience always brings.
God is sovereign, supreme, the creator of all. He is our loving Father-Mother, who never fails us. If we seem not to be experiencing His help, we've become overly impressed by false beliefs, illusions—a situation always correctable through Christian Science.
