In 1947 I mentioned to a woman I met on a journey that I was searching for a new view on which to base my life. She smiled and told me a little about Christian Science—even the name was new to me. She lent me a Sentinel. I was not long in seeing that this was something I should have to examine. I bought Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which was not yet translated into a Scandinavian language, and ordered the weekly Norwegian translation of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. Gradually I came to the conclusion that there is no disagreement between the Bible and the teaching of Christian Science. On the contrary, my study explained many of the seeming contradictions in the Bible that had puzzled me.
I, as well as my two children, have been blessed with good health, and they have behaved well. I owe this to the understanding of the law of God gained through my study. I deem Christian Science of inestimable value in the rearing of children.
Through the years I have had several healings of bodily troubles, partly through my own prayer, partly through the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner. For instance, I was healed of a painful condition of a knee. The first time, more than twenty years ago, one of my knees became quite stiff. It was difficult and painful to walk and to climb stairs. I kept to the thought that as God's creation—the only creation—is perfectly good and spiritual, He knew nothing of a stiff, hurting knee. What God did not know, I, being His likeness, could not have. This condition took a long time to heal, but suddenly it was not there.
