What determines our success?

What we trust in determines our success. From the days of Abraham, Jacob, Moses, through the prophets, into Christ Jesus' time and after, we see illustrations of how individuals unreservedly trusted in and obeyed the one infinite God. These men were healers—conquerors of all sorts of problems. Their compassion and wisdom spilled over into the lives of others, bringing them relief and healing.

For many of us, though, adulthood may seem to bring with it a fading of the childlike trust so evident in the lives of Bible luminaries. Perhaps people we've depended on have proved unreliable; places we've counted on for security, comfort, and stability have changed. From year to year things seem to happen with increasing speed, and some of us may have the defeated sense that we just can't keep up with the times anymore.

Yet a child puts his little hand into the strong hand of his parent. He may not know where he's being taken or the way there. But he doesn't question that he'll get there safely and that the destination will be a good place.
