As I look back over more than fifty years of complete dependence on Christian Science, I am deluged with memories of many healings, some achieved through my own prayers and others through the help of practitioners.

My mother became a student of Christian Science when I was a small girl, and she was the only student in the family for many years. However, in my late teens when I had a personal problem to solve without being able to talk it over with her, it seemed quite natural to expect comfort by reading her copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and to find a solution. Since that time I have never left Science, even though when I married I lived far away from any Church of Christ, Scientist, and from any Christian Science practitioner.

On one occasion, I pushed aside a bundle of clothes from the kitchen table, not realizing that the electric iron was in the bundle. The iron fell out onto my foot. I tried not to look to see what damage had been done, but instead turned to a study of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. But the pain was so aggressive that I had to remove my shoe. My big toe was badly injured. I wrapped a handkerchief loosely around it to stop the bleeding and, putting on a tennis shoe of my husband's, went back to my books. As far as I recollect, I prayed to feel no resentment toward the one who had left the iron in such a precarious position. The healing was so immediate that I was able to go out that evening wearing high-heeled shoes.
