The winning thought

Ever since I can remember I wanted to play all kinds of sports. Camps, Little League, and other such activities were great in helping me learn to develop my skills in playing. There is a real satisfaction for me in doing well in all sports. I prayed daily to know God protected and supplied me spiritually with the qualities of goodwill, sportsmanship, and intelligence.

Finally the day came when I was accepted on the high school football team—my dream come true. Every game was a new experience, win or lose. However, most of the time we did lose. After the season I thought, "Wait till next year." I prayed to express the highest standard of performance, not just to win.

An article about healing the effects of accidents, which appeared in the Sentinel, was a great help to me. It made me aware that it's wrong to look for reasons for a bad effect. This kept me alert to the fact that divine law governs all man's action harmoniously. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection."Science and Health, p. 424; I knew all was secure in God's being.
