During and after my late teens I suffered for thirty years with what the doctor called muscular rheumatism. I was given pills and ointment, which helped for a time, but the trouble always returned. I was having difficulty again and couldn't lift my arm at all without pain, when I attended my first service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I felt very uplifted and comforted by the service, and the following Wednesday I attended the testimony meeting. What I heard at this meeting made me feel I could be healed by Christian Science, so after the meeting I bought a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and started to read it.

I didn't understand much of what I read but kept on reading until a week later, as I was walking down the stairs, I happened to lift my arm and, to my amazement, I could put it right over my head! I felt such joy as I literally ran the rest of the way downstairs, shouting to my husband and mother, "I can move my arm without pain. I've been healed just by reading Science and Health!" This healing has been permanent, and today I can even paint the walls and ceilings of my house and do anything that needs to be done, with no trouble.

My second healing in Science came after I had been attending a branch church for twelve months. I had not been well and had been having severe pains and bouts of sickness. While on holiday in Scotland I became so ill that I only longed to be home. How I made the journey by bus to Manchester I will never know. I just kept knowing, "I am God's perfect child. He will help me," as I sat huddled up in my seat. On arrival home I went straight to bed.
