As a child, I attended Sunday School in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. The truths of Christian Science learned there stayed by me for some years, even when Christian Science was prohibited in our country. Then for a period Science slipped out of my conscious thought.

After the birth of our first child, I had a pelvic thrombosis. I had learned to walk again on crutches but was still quite weak and frequently plagued by overwhelming fear. I did not discuss this fear, but it determined my behavior, which was often incomprehensible to those close to me, and troubled my relationships.

At that time I received a letter from my grandmother reminding me of Christian Science. I did not waste a minute in turning to it because I knew it was the only way leading out of all that was oppressing me.
