The Cost of Living

Is there a remedy for rising costs? Is there a remedy for fear, worry, and gloom concerning the economic outlook?

Yes, there is an infallible remedy, and Christ Jesus provided mankind with it. After speaking of the necessity for food and clothing and assuring his hearers that God, our heavenly Father, is aware of our needs, he said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt. 6:33; When we put first things first as counseled in this biblical text, we see this little word "added" in its true significance, and this prevents us from becoming disturbed over the cost of human necessities.

Is the course outlined by Jesus practical? It is indeed. Obedience to Jesus' counsel has proved practical in my experience over many years, and I am truly grateful for this instruction. As our thought changes from a material to a spiritual base, we find ourselves less and less concerned over rising costs and more and more prepared to trust our welfare to the wisdom of Him who created the universe. We become increasingly assured that everywhere and always the cost of real living is full obedience to God's commandments. When we perceive this and understand to some degree that our real being cannot be touched by rising prices, our thought is greatly freed to accept the benefits of spiritual living and its blessings.
