Christian Science means a lot to me and is becoming dearer...

Christian Science means a lot to me and is becoming dearer every year. I am so grateful for the many healings, the protection, and the supply my family and I have had. I would like to briefly mention a few healings that stand out to me as waymarks.

Two years ago I was helping my husband build a bookcase when a shelf fell on the top of my bare foot, crushing part of the foot. A few days before, I had occasion to read in Science and Health Mrs. Eddy's explanation with regard to one's saying "I am hurt!" After the shelf fell, my first and immediate thought was, "I am not hurt," and I followed the instruction I had read (p. 397): "Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be." On my way to telephone a Christian Science practitioner, I began to reason why I couldn't be hurt. This happened late at night, and the next morning I was up walking, though with a slight limp. The limp and pain were soon gone, and the foot was fine that week. During this time the foot was not swollen or discolored but looked normal after the first night.

Another time I woke with a backache, which became so severe by the end of the day that I could not move. I called a practitioner, who worked prayerfully with me. In spite of this I found myself in bed with pain the next day. After much praying, I felt I must get out of bed. I denied the reality of pain, knowing that God's kingdom, including His harmonious government, is now, and that man is part of it now and always. Finally two thoughts helped me up. From the Bible (Ps. 23:4), "Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." And from Science and Health (p. 393), "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good." I was able to get up within a little while and to do what I needed to do at home. Two days later there wasn't a trace of pain. At the end of the week, when the backache tried to take over again, I was able to dismiss it completely, because I knew the prayerful work had been done.
