Relief Now

"The rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday—but never jam to-day," the Queen tells Alice in Through the Looking Glass. The rule hints at what is too widely accepted: good belongs to some other time.

What a relief to know that good is a possibility in our own experience now! It's inevitable if we take a spiritually scientific outlook. We find relief by realizing that what we really are—God's free and stressless idea—conforms only to divine law. Mary Baker Eddy tells us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "We should relieve our minds from the depressing thought that we have transgressed a material law and must of necessity pay the penalty." Science and Health, p. 384; Divine law is never actually transgressed, scientifically speaking, and there is no other law.

The divine consciousness, the only consciousness, is never depressed or discouraged. And since this consciousness is everywhere, there are no independent consciousnesses. What a relief it is—what a practical, healing relief—to know this!
