Gratefully I can say many healings have come to me and to my family through the study and application of Christian Science.

While taking a twenty-four-hour trip by train, I became ill with a virus condition accompanied by pain and nausea. In the late afternoon I had to change my reservations from a berth to a compartment so that I could lie down. I could not reach a Christian Science practitioner or my family, so I prayed the best Christianly scientific prayer I knew, to claim my freedom. As the hours passed, however, the pain increased until I felt I could no longer think clearly.

At this point I cried out to God, "Father, what can I do?" The answer that then came to me quietly was, "You can say 'the scientific statement of being,' can't you?" I said aloud, "I certainly can," and I began at once to repeat it over and over, pondering each word. The statement includes these sentences (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468): "All is infinite Mind and the infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." All pain, nausea, and cold left me, and I was completely healed.
