In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states (p. 1): "Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind. Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."I had studied the healings of Christ Jesus in the Bible—many healings accomplished and some instantaneous. I had a great desire to experience healings like these in my own life. Without realizing it at the time, I was really praying.

Some time later I became ill with a very high fever. When the fear came that I might not live through the night, I asked my husband to have a Christian Science practitioner come to our home to give me a treatment. She came promptly. She made a few statements of truth from Science and Health, then sat quietly by my bed praying for me. In about fifteen minutes I began to feel my strength returning. I was cool, and there was no more fever. It was difficult to believe that I was healed so quickly. I got up and went into the next room to show members of my family waiting there that I was well. They were as amazed as I was. There was no period of recuperation. I returned to my full-time work in an office the next morning, completely healed.

My healing was similar to that of Simon's wife's mother who was healed by Christ Jesus (see Luke 4: 38, 39). This healing was in the late 1930's, and I have not had a recurrence of this problem in over thirty-five years. When an illness is rightly met and overcome in Christian Science, the healing is permanent.
