Bethlehem of Judæa (Matt. 2:1)
The name Bethlehem is taken from Hebrew words that mean "house of bread." There are two such localities, but the one in the Roman province of Judæa (a Latin form of the more ancient name Judah) is about six miles south of Jerusalem, near an important highway link to Hebron.
