Richie and the Practitioner

Richie had been a Christian Scientist all his life. He knew that healing comes about by prayer as Christ Jesus taught, but he couldn't ever really remember being healed himself. He liked to hear Mother tell of times that he had been healed when he was younger, either through his parents' prayers or a Christian Science practitioner's. But he kept wishing he could see this happen himself.

One day he noticed a wart on his finger had grown larger. It bothered him when he tried to use his hands. Besides, his friends made fun of him. He wondered if God could do anything about this. When he asked his mother, she said, "Why don't you work it out for yourself, and see?"

Richie asked how to do this, and she said if he'd like to talk with a practitioner about it, he might. The next day they were going on a drive with their friend, a Christian Science practitioner, and so Richie asked to sit in the backseat with her and talk over this problem.
