Be Grateful for the Challenge!

A young man called a Christian Science practitioner to ask for treatment of a painful physical condition. The practitioner asked, "Are you being grateful for this challenge?" "No, I am not." "Well, let's be grateful now, because anything that brings us closer to God must bless us. Coming closer to God means a spiritualizing of our thought, and this is always a blessing."

When an opportunity for healing comes, do we bemoan our lot and say, "Why has this happened to me?" Do we resent the inconvenience, become impatient with ourselves, and let self-pity and discouragement intrude upon our thoughts? This reaction is not necessary or helpful, nor does it further our progress heavenward.

David ran to meet Goliath, confident of victory through his trust in God's protecting love and care. And David's God is your God and my God. He is just as helpful to you and me in our trials today and just as capable of delivering us.
