New in Christian Science?

When I was a small child, my mother had a very wonderful healing after the doctors had told her she wouldn't live much longer. She went to a Christian Science practitioner for help. He explained to her that she was not, in truth, a sick mortal. She was God's own child, a spiritual idea, perfect and healthy. He taught her to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and to pray for herself in a new way, not asking God for any material thing, but giving thanks to Him for all that He had given her. The practitioner prayed for her and encouraged her to trust God. Soon she was well. Mother lived a very active life after that healing. My brother and sister and I were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School so that we could learn how this healing could happen, and how to pray in a way that brings healing.

Learning for the first time about Christian Science is wonderful. You find out that since God is All-in-all evil can't be real. So there is nothing to be afraid of or unhappy about. You learn that instead of being a mortal, who can be sick or in pain or unhappy, you are really the spiritual child of God. You are made in His likeness, enfolded in His love. You learn what these Bible words mean, "In him we live, and move, and have our being."^{Acts 17:28;}

My first healing came when I was a young child, and I remember it made a big impression on me. I had a severe pain and felt very miserable. I talked with the practitioner on the phone and told him how I felt. He assured me that God was all-power and that nothing evil could be real or could harm me. By the time I hung up the phone I was well! The pain was all gone. I was really excited to see how quickly God's truth heals.
