Over fifty years ago I was suffering from chronic dyspepsia and chronic constipation. I was taking medicines prescribed by our family physician. Having concluded that these, while giving temporary relief, offered no hope of cure, I decided to attend a lecture on Christian Science. It was so inspiring that I obtained a copy of the textbook mentioned during the lecture, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and began reading it. To my joy I found relief from the chronic dyspepsia, just from reading this book.

While I had given up all medicines for dyspepsia, every attempt to give up the laxative was a failure. To make matters worse, the dyspepsia returned. I then sought help from a Christian Science practitioner for the chronic dyspepsia only, intending to have help for the constipation afterward. But I received no apparent benefit. Later I learned this was due to my continuing use of the laxative. Upon seeking treatment from another practitioner, it was made clear to me that I must put my faith in God or in medicine, and he could not help me unless I chose the former. I did and discontinued use of the laxative. Soon I was healed of both ailments through treatment in Science.

I joined a branch church and, later, The Mother Church, as did my wife, whom I married about four years after my healing.
