Our Unity with God

Almost two thousand years ago Christ Jesus proclaimed, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father" John 14:9; and "I and my Father are one." 10:30; Simple, direct words, and yet their true import has still not been fully realized by mankind.

A little over a century ago, Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science set these statements in a new light. Mrs. Eddy discerned that when Jesus claimed his oneness, or unity, with God, he was speaking not of his human personality but of the Christ, his divine, spiritual selfhood, which he perceived as the spiritual, or true, idea of God. This understanding of himself and his relation to God made all things possible to him, enabling him to heal the sick, walk on water, raise the dead. Mrs. Eddy makes clear that the Mind of Christ Jesus is the only Mind, the divine Mind, called God, and that man is Mind's idea, forever one with the Father.

It is in this enlightened sense that Mrs. Eddy writes, "The one Ego, the one Mind or Spirit called God, is infinite individuality, which supplies all form and comeliness and which reflects realityand divinity in individual spiritual man and things." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 281; God was perceptible to her as Mind. It became her mission to give to the world as a demonstrable Science the divine revelation of Mind's allness. Unless it could be demonstrated in healing and moral renewal, the revelation would have no value. Her life bore witness to the truth she taught. Her statements, especially those in which she denies the reality of matter, are, in many ways, as challenging to this age as were Jesus' words to his age.
