More than Threescore Years and Ten

Seventy is mentioned in the Bible as a reasonable age to attain and even now some people do not relish the prospect of living much longer, for fear of decrepitude and distress. Despite the fact that many of the patriarchs are credited with having lived usefully—even triumphantly—for much longer, the Psalmist said, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." Ps. 90:10;

But the age limit of threescore years and ten is a fallacy. Even at the time the Psalmist voiced his melancholy view, many people could be cited as having done their most outstanding work when they were considerably older. Is there, in fact, any fixed law or precedent to justify our placing limits on our strength, activity, usefulness, and joy at any age? On the contrary, Life is God, infinite, eternal, and man is the everlasting, spiritual likeness of God. Man, in his real being, never can be separated from God, eternal Life, as His reflection; so he can never die, nor can he lose his strength, usefulness, activity, and joy. He is untouched by the belief of age.

Christ Jesus knew this and said of his followers, "I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish." John 10:28;
