Marching Orders
A student of Christian Science was contending with chest pains, overwhelming exhaustion, and inability to sleep or rest. In the endeavor to overcome these discordant conditions, he asked a Christian Science practitioner to help him through prayer; and with the expectancy of victory he resolved to do everything to the glory of God—to magnify God in every thought and every act.
This goal gave him his marching orders. As he earnestly endeavored to carry them out daily, they gradually became his way of life. Duties and obligations that were formerly considered necessary and indispensable dropped out of his experience. As he gave more time to study of the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, harmony ruled the home, a better concept of supply was established, and his health was restored.
It is good to have marching orders, firmly adhered to, but it is essential that these orders come from God. To ascertain their origin is not difficult when we realize that God, divine Principle, the creator of all and the Giver of all good, includes in His creation only peace, health, abundance, and harmony for His children. This is the nature of creation as described in the first chapter of Genesis; and anything not in accord with Principle is not of God and has no reality or existence. Therefore only marching orders that have harmony as their motive, Principle as their foundation, Love as their substance, and healing as their goal should be accepted and obeyed.
