Effectively Helping Humanity

A great need of humanity today is to express that blessed sense of compassion and care which the master Christian, Christ Jesus, exemplified. In his parable of the good Samaritan Jesus emphasized the need for practical, compassionate concern for our brother man, regardless of race, creed, or social standing. In this parable bothe the priest and Levite "passed by on the other side," Luke 10:31, 32; leaving the unfortunate, wounded man uncared for.

How often do we pass by on the other side, mentally as well as physically, when confronted with suffering in daily life, or through the communications media? It is apparent that the good Samaritan was not primarily concerned with the possible circumstances that might have led to the man's predicament. The Samaritan's nature was touched by the Christ. He manifested divine Love, which is impartial and eternal, and his actions met the human need in a practical way.

Christ Jesus taught that the sinning as well as the sick need compassionate understanding and love. Should not this love also extend to communities, and even nations? One cannot help heal any individual or community or nation by treating it with indifference. The Christ, the spirit of divine Love in action, comes where the human need is. Christly insight sees Love being reflected universally in love, right where its opposite seems to be. It sees man in the image of God, Love.
