Two years ago, only a few weeks after my arrival in Paris, I began to have great difficulty in breathing. This made any activity a burden, and walking and climbing stairs nearly impossible. At night I slept very little. I felt I could not continue with my daily classes and duties. In three days' time I was to make a trip to England. Self-pity and fear crept into my thoughts. But the words of Mrs. Eddy's hymn came to me (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 304):
I will listen for Thy voice,
Lest my footsteps stray;
I will follow and rejoice
All the rugged way.
