I was blessed by being raised from birth in a Christian Science...
I was blessed by being raised from birth in a Christian Science home, surrounded by loving and dedicated relatives, and during my childhood I was singularly free from ailments and accidents. I attended Sunday School and church regularly and had few problems to meet. It wasn't until I was off on my own in college that any arose, and these were generally handled quickly by Christian Science practitioners. I am grateful that during these years I did attend church fairly regularly, but I was definitely not a working Scientist.
However, after marriage I joined The Mother Church and a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and took part in some church activities. And I found Christian Science a help in raising a family. But there were no real testing times until at four months old, our youngest daughter developed a severe skin condition over her entire body.
This unhappy condition persisted for some months in spite of my own prayers and those of practitioners I turned to off and on. In fact, the condition seemed to worsen. I was grateful during those months that my husband, who was not a Christian Scientist, never once suggested medical help for our daughter. However, relatives in the home and others were disturbed, and I finally decided to take the child to an eminent pediatrician, who diagnosed it a severe case of eczema, provoked by some undetermined allergy. He prescribed a diet and asked me to bring her back in two weeks, to see what progress, if any, had been made.
