For a long time I have wished to recount some of the prayerful steps taken in my healing of mental illness. I had a slowly developing disorder, characterized by fearful suffering and delirium. Eventually I was put into a mental hospital, where noise and lack of peace were intensified.
During five years of repetitive attacks I never lost my trust in Christian Science to heal. I daily read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, even though it often took all day.
After a series of unpleasant treatments I walked out of the institution. I was picked up by a stranger who drove thirty miles out of his way to deliver me to my home. I sat huddled for four days and then made my way to the home of a Christian Scientist. She strongly advised me to notify the hospital of my whereabouts. When my husband returned at the weekend, he agreed to cooperate with my desire to remain at home. My son, a Christian Scientist, also gave much help. Many things worked to my advantage.
