SPIRITUALIZING THOUGHT

through prayerful trust in God's law

Today more and more importance is attached to the accumulation of wealth. In order to obtain it, unsound means are often used. News media daily bring us accounts of theft in one form or another.

Dishonesty has spread so widely that some think being honest is being out of touch with the times. As a result of this thinking, people from all walks of life are caught in the web of being matter oriented. Although much dishonesty is repressed and punished and many people are taken to court, dishonest ways still flourish. Current methods of punishment often fail to reach the matter-based thought that commands the action, that sins and needs correcting. Therefore one who is tempted to be dishonest must search his thoughts. He has to see where the thoughts come from that generate his actions, and deal with these thoughts appropriately.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, the Christian Science textbook, "If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the Spirit."  Science and Health, p. 451; Every thought that comes "from above" spiritualizes, and brings into expression uprightness, integrity, sincerity, unselfishness, goodness. Every thought that comes "from beneath" materializes, and opens the way for beliefs of insincerity, dishonesty, fraud, infidelity, greed.
