Four years ago, following an illness, our son was unable to hear distinctly. We felt this was just a temporary lapse, and weren't alarmed until he was in first grade and his teacher had his ears tested. The results of the test were so disturbing to the school authorities that they informed the county health department and an appointment was set up with an ear specialist. We were informed we must keep the appointment. This was the first knowledge we had that our son's ears had been tested.

Both my husband and I wanted to rely completely on God for the boy's care and healing. I contacted the Christian Science Committee on Publication office and learned that students of Science were permitted by the laws of our state to depend on Christian Science treatment for their children.

A Christian Science practitioner agreed to treat our son through prayer. Then I called the representative of the health department, thanked her for her loving concern, explained our feelings, and said what we had done. I assured her our son would not be neglected. She was very cooperative, and we heard no further from the health department or the school authorities about his hearing defect at that time.
