Every time I hear of people suffering severely from rheumatism, I think, "If they only knew of Christian Science!"

I had the opportunity and necessity to prove for myself that Science heals this disease. I had not heeded the first symptoms, and within a short time the pain and stiffness were so severe that I could not bend to put on my shoes. The evil seemed so real that I was inclined to believe that even Christian Science could not help.

Nonetheless, I tried again and again to resist this thought and to seek more of the truth of spiritual being I had been learning for so many years. I remembered that Mrs. Eddy tells us to persevere in knowing the truth, and I knew in a mind filled with truth there is no room for disease. Consequently, I tried to occupy my thought with statements from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Helpful thoughts were also supplied by the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly of that week, dealing with the subject "Matter." One such thought was: "Mind's government of the body must supersede the so-called laws of matter" (Science and Health, p. 182). After a few days of faithful prayer along these lines, the pain and the stiffness had gone.
