A Working Mother

Most people have the desire to do some important work or "leave their mark on society." Many times young women find that after spending a number of years acquiring a good education and the early years of marriage working at a profession their increasing family responsibilities make it seem necessary to stay at home. Sometimes they feel a certain futility doing the daily chores around the house, and have no strong sense of direction. They are even tempted to feel they are not contributing anything to society.

A young mother found herself in this situation several years ago. She had been happily employed in a teaching job providing unlimited opportunities, she felt, for expressing the Christ, Truth. However, her husband's employment was not meeting his needs. They prayed a great deal to get a clearer concept of home and employment as divine ideas always expressed perfectly by the real, spiritual man, who is created in God's image and likeness.

The young couple realized that every one of God's children is useful and needed, and that their job was to listen so they would know where they could be most useful and productive. They prayed to know they would hear God's direction and follow His leading. Also, they were careful not to prejudge what this direction might be but to be receptive of any guidance from Him.
