Loving Yourself

When the Pharisees questioned Christ Jesus about the greatest commandment in the law, they were probably not surprised when he told them it was to love God with all their heart and all their mind and all their strength and all their soul. Then the Master gave them a second great commandment from the Old Testament, and that was to love their neighbor.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy answers the question "What are the demands of the Science of Soul?" by saying: "The first demand of this Science is, 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me.' This me is Spirit. Therefore the command means this: Thou shalt have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual. The second is like unto it, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' " Science and Health, p. 467;

Love your neighbor. How often we hear this quoted as though it were the complete statement. But this wasn't all Jesus said. There was a condition to the love he preached. His words were, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Matt. 22:39;
