"Ermine! Ermine!" yelled Mark. But there was no answering meow.

Ten-year-old Mark had been playing handball with his friends in the backyard, but when the sun went down, he decided it was time to go inside.

When he opened the door, his mother's friends were just leaving. Mark and his mother walked to the driveway with them.
