Sentinels

A soldier makes his own report
And calls each hour that all is well,
When he patrols a camp or fort.
He walks his beat as sentinel
To guard the tents of sleeping men
Until the sun comes up again.

Truth is our trusted sentinel.
It keeps a faithful watch for us,
Reminding us that all is well
And that no place is dangerous
Since God is present and His care
Protects His children everywhere.

Let us as sentinels begin
To watch our thought both day and night
And let no harmful thing slip in
To hinder us from doing right.
Then we will find a happy way
To share this watchfulness each day.

What joy to be a sentinel
And prove the truth that all is well!
