The Value of Right Identification

The identity of man is, always has been, and ever will remain God's perfect son, manifesting the all-power and perfect goodness of his creator. Realizing through progress Spiritward that the mortal, material sense of man's being is totally false, and finding in the Bible and Christian Science our real identity—these are incomparable experiences to the seeker for Truth.

In Christ Jesus' parable of the prodigal son the father says to the older brother, "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine." Luke 15:31; These words, when fully understood, convey a wealth of meaning and great comfort. They point to the spiritual, real man's inseparability from his ever-abundant, never-withholding divine source.

Not only man's expression of divine good but also his God-given freedom from everything unlike good is understood through the correct identification of man as God knows him. No form of evil can attach itself to man's true being. How is this demonstrated in individual experience? Through spiritual understanding and thought-discipline. Standing vigilant guard over our mentality, refusing to entertain evil or worthless thoughts and welcoming and retaining the good and valuable, is an exercise very early showing its practicality. To learn step by step to think and act to the glory of God is a stimulating, very rewarding occupation.
