Testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals have played an important part in my growth and understanding of Christian Science, and I hope that my healing experiences will help others. Christian Science has been my only physician for many years.
One year, during the Christmas season, when the house was full of guests and joyous activity, I discovered that I was bleeding internally. I became very afraid and turned to my books, the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, for healing. After a day or two there was no change, so I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. The following day I was so fearful that I made up my mind that after my morning call to the practitioner I would go to a medical doctor for a diagnosis. But after talking with the practitioner I lost my fear, and the temptation to have a medical diagnosis just left me. Her positive declarations of man's perfection, independent of matter, and of God's constant flow of life to man, enabled me to understand these spiritual truths and see the nothingness of inharmony.
Saturday I spent the whole evening in prayer with my books, and I clearly saw the meaning of the statement by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 481): "Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else." Man does not create tributaries. That night I slept soundly for the first time since the condition had appeared about ten days before. The next day was Sunday, and although the physical symptoms were the same, I told the practitioner that this would be a day of gratitude and joy. Monday there was decided improvement, and in a day or so the healing was complete. What joy and inspiration attended me when the following Sunday I undertook my first service as Second Reader of my branch church!
