A Bowl of Rice

Viewing our world, as we can these days through television, we conclude that it is a world of contrasts. We can, for instance, view in the same evening a group of people sitting down in luxurious surroundings to an elaborate dinner, or a pajama-clad family in the Orient living on a sampan eating their bowl of rice.

And speaking of contrasts, what a difference there is between today's widespread urgings through the various media—"take care of your health," "watch your diet," "take vitamins"—and the simple words of Jesus: "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?" His urging is, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness."Matt. 6:25, 33;

Christ Jesus taught that God is Spirit and that man is the offspring of Spirit. Today's flood of warnings to take care of the body, to watch one's diet, and so forth, results from the belief that man is a material outgrowth who, like the beasts and vegetables, needs to be nourished wholly materially for proper health and well-being.
