When My Parents Got Divorced
(by a college student)
Dear Dave,
From your letter it sounds as though you've been having a rough time since your parents' divorce. The questions you asked about how to handle those overwhelming feelings of insecurity and loneliness are ones I had to wrestle with myself when my parents broke up. They can be a nightmare if you give them power.
Those first few weeks after the divorce were especially rough. I was entering a strange school because we had moved to a different city. I had no friends and had a very difficult time adjusting to the new family situation. As a result my grades dropped to the point where I was barely passing. But the most miserable part of the whole experience was that I had no one to turn to.
