The summer before my sophomore year in high school, I began...
The summer before my sophomore year in high school, I began to have trouble sitting quietly for any length of time. I really didn't give this much attention then, and soon the trouble seemed to go away. However, a couple of weeks later, the problem sprang up again, and this time I told my parents about it. I knew I wanted to rely on Christian Science for healing. So we got a Christian Science practitioner, and we all worked and prayed to overcome the difficulty. The problem again was stilled. Then it came up again and once more was stilled. This went on all summer. Each time we took up something different in our prayerful work, such as realizing that there was no pressure, because I was the reflection of God.
In the fall, I had to drop out from marching in band parades and going on Girl Scout hikes. At this time I had to learn to be grateful for the good that teachers and friends expressed.
During Easter vacation my parents went to visit my sister at college, and I went to Denver and stayed with my grandmother. This is when the problem seemed to flare up. I seemed to need comforting all night and all day. My relatives prayed constantly. My mother who had come to Denver decided to take me home. At that time there was the temptation to have this handled by surgery. I couldn't eat much. But I was still sure I wanted to work this out in Christian Science.
