I became acquainted with Christian Science as a child through reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Upon my first reading I realized it contained the truth I wanted. I studied the book for hours into the night and practiced its teachings during the day. It was evident to me, from simple experiences during this time, that a right understanding of God as divine Mind could and would heal sickness. Indeed, physical healing was my need.

I had been suffering for some time with asthma, which was threatening to stop even the simplest daily activities. I needed to understand more fully man's perfection as a child of God and his exemption from illness. Because of frequent and prolonged absences from school, medical doctors did examine me, but were unable to offer any relief, either temporary or permanent. Finally I realized that a complete healing would come only through total reliance on God, Spirit. This would come about by a change in consciousness.

A Christian Science practitioner was giving me treatment through prayer, and some time later I felt the healing had taken place. I was enjoying the natural freedom of a young teen-ager. Some weeks later, however, the same condition appeared with more alarming symptoms. This time I remained calm and unafraid. I recall that the practitioner stated the healing had been complete and there could be no relapse once error was destroyed by Truth.
