Too long have I waited to express my gratitude through the periodicals for the protecting care my family and I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. I first heard of Christian Science while I was serving in the First World War. A fellow soldier loaned me the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

I would like to relate two outstanding healings. One morning after I had sprayed some tomato plants, my legs became swollen. I had to go to bed, as I was unable to stand and soon became delirious. My wife called a Christian Science practitioner to treat me through prayer. After about a week, during which I showed no visible improvement, my wife and the practitioner recommended I call my teacher for further prayerful help. I shall never forget the words he said to me on the phone: "Fred, where are you living, in matter or Spirit?" I replied, "In Spirit," as I had been taught. He said, "Good. Now let us stay with God today." It was as though he had said, "Don't be afraid. There is no error in Truth." That was the turning point, for soon my legs drained, their size became normal, fresh skin appeared, and I was able to go about my business as though nothing had happened.

On another occasion, while I was getting ready for church one Sunday morning, I felt as though a rug had been pulled from under me, and I collapsed on the floor. As I fell, I declared aloud, "God is my Life." My wife telephoned a practitioner for treatment, which was given with much understanding, and immediately I was healed. I was able to rise, dress myself, go to church, and be in my place as head usher, strong and fit in every way.
