No Compromise

Christian Science is the Science of Christianity and must be practiced as such. Any deviations or compromises in applying its rules inevitably result in wrong solutions. The only safe practice is to be undeviating and uncompromising in applying the rules. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Strict adherence to the divine Principle and rules of the scientific method has secured the only success of the students of Christian Science." Science and Health, p. 456;

Suggestions to compromise come in many forms. The more obvious ones include the temptation to use material remedies or to conform to social and moral practices that do not measure up to the high level of Christian Science. But there are more subtle forms of compromise that we can all eliminate more fully; for example, the tendency to ignore or postpone facing up to problems. Mortal mind, materially based thinking, is inherently lazy. But mortal mind is not ours. The only Mind we can actually have is the divine Mind, expressed by man in right activity, spontaneity, wisdom, spiritual freshness, true energy, and strength. The realization of this truth nullifies the inertia and miasma of mortal mind and enables us to tackle our problems with zest.

Sometimes one may compromise with error by keeping silent when he should speak up. His silence may give the impression that he is agreeing with error, and in this way he may influence others erroneously. Here moral courage is required if one is to come out in the open and be counted on the side of Truth.
