From earliest childhood I attended Sunday School in a Protestant...
From earliest childhood I attended Sunday School in a Protestant church, then Bible classes and church services. How well I recall the love expressed to me by the teachers and the minister! However, after some fifty years I became troubled and could not understand why good, kind Christian folk should be sick and suffer, when the Bible declares God's healing power.
At this time a leaflet announcing a Christian Science lecture was pushed through my door. I attended that lecture and was so impressed that both my husband and I commenced attending Sunday services and Wednesday testimony meetings in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
I was suffering from asthma and was extremely distressed. The kindness of church members, their love and understanding, helped me a great deal. Several times I called on a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. I gradually discarded all tablets and injections. Particularly helpful in my study were the Bible verse "Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for wherein is he to be accounted of?" (Isa. 2:22) and "the scientific statement of being" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 468). The concluding words of the latter statement are: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." I was soon completely healed.
