Christian Science is indeed the Comforter promised by Christ...
Christian Science is indeed the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus. One of my earliest experiences in Christian Science occurred while I was in college. Through unfortunate circumstances I had turned down a highly regarded national fraternity and had joined a fraternity that seemed to be very much lacking in a spirit of brotherhood and high standards. My hopes and plans seemed to have collapsed just when I was starting my college work.
My mother was interested in Christian Science, so she gave me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I had such a longing for a sense of inner peace and comfort that I took the book back to school with me and read it daily, sometimes for hours at a time. I would take long walks by myself, pondering what I had read.
Soon I started to attend services in a Church of Christ, Scientist, a few blocks from the campus. The textbook was most comforting and inspiring, and I soon started to feel differently about my fraternity brothers. I became better adjusted and made real friends there. I continued to read the book daily, and the following fall when I returned to school, a marvelous change had taken place in the fraternity. A new spirit of brotherhood was much in evidence, and the new group of freshmen pledges joining the fraternity were a fine group of men, quite different from the group who had joined the fraternity with me a year earlier. My unhappiness and disappointment had disappeared, replaced by a marvelous sense of inner peace and happiness. No longer did I wish that I had joined another fraternity. I found the spirit of brotherhood and high standards right where I was.
