When first becoming interested in Christian Science, about forty-one...
When first becoming interested in Christian Science, about forty-one years ago, I seemed to have many cherished pleasures to give up, but I soon learned that a sincere student of this religion finds he is not giving up anything. On the contrary, false appetites simply fade away. This was literally true when I lost the desire for tobacco and social drinking. At the same time chronic headaches, which had plagued me for years, disappeared, never to return. Recurring colds were eliminated without any specific treatment other than the daily study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
Prior to that time, through the help of a dedicated practitioner, a severe case of influenza was healed; and some years later there were healings of a kidney infection, laryngitis, and hemorrhoids. More recently a partial stroke brought my family from another state, and they witnessed my complete recovery in three days, although I was virtually helpless just before they arrived.
Some time ago an alarming growth appeared on the bridge of my nose. Many persons commented, including the barber and optometrist. The latter, while fitting me for glasses, expressed fearfully that it was malignant and should be removed. However, I vehemently denied this assertion mentally. The growth completely disappeared in a few weeks, leaving no trace whatever.
